Cinnamon Apple Oats ~ A Little Warmth for the Turning Season
Some mornings ask for a little warmth before the world gets busy. An apple on the counter, cinnamon in the air, and a spoon that can take its time.
Ayurveda Studio Nourishment is back at the Sunday table. This week, we’re beginning with a simple bowl of cinnamon apple oats ~ something familiar, fragrant, and easy to make your own.
Makes 2 servings • About 20 minutes
Gather what you need
1 cup certified gluten-free rolled oats
2 cups water, plus ¼ cup for the apples
1 medium sweet apple, cored and cut into small pieces; peel if you prefer
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, divided
1 teaspoon butter or olive oil, optional
Let the kitchen grow warm
1. Put the chopped apple, ¼ cup water, and ¼ teaspoon cinnamon in a small saucepan. Cover and simmer gently for 6–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apple is tender. Add a splash of water if the pan begins to dry.
2. In another saucepan, bring 2 cups water to a boil. Stir in the oats and remaining ¼ teaspoon cinnamon. Lower the heat and simmer, stirring, for about 5 minutes or according to the oats’ package directions.
3. Stir the optional butter or olive oil into the oats. Divide between two bowls and spoon the soft apples and their cooking juices over the top. Add a little more water if you like a softer, looser bowl.
4. Let it cool to a comfortable temperature. Find a place to sit. The dishes can wait until breakfast is over.
A small thread of Ayurveda
Warm cooked foods and a steady rhythm around meals are common themes in Ayurveda’s traditional autumn approach. This bowl takes inspiration from that tradition; it is a seasonal recipe, not a treatment or a promise about digestion. Choose the portion and ingredients that suit you.
A sweet apple brings its own flavor, so no added sweetener is needed. A ripe pear works here, too; cook it just until tender.
A question for your Sunday
What makes a meal feel nourishing to you ~ the food, the company, the quiet, or the chance to sit down at last?
Pull up a chair. There’s room at this table.
